I once had a run in with these guys.
When leaving a Naples hotel, the taxi driver put my luggage in the boot, slid his finger across his throat and said “special taxi.” This involved me (the company) having to fork out two hundred and fifty pounds for a five pound taxi ride.
Naples was a scary place, even when compared with Belfast at the height of the troubles.
In Belfast it was not unknown for a taxi driver to pull out a gun, if he thought you were an undercover state agent attempting to infiltrate a particular area; but generally, they did not overcharge you for the ride. In Naples, the coffee was better…and the weather.
Naples is crazy. You know what the Mafia (or whatever it is called there) did? They put dangerous nuclear materials on old ships, and sank them in the Mediterranean Sea.
